σ² = σ × σ= 22.09
Note
This is a simplified model: it applies the displayed standard formula to the summary values you entered and assumes their underlying conditions (independence, normality, correct sampling) hold. It does not analyse a real data set. Check the assumptions before relying on the result.

How do I get variance from standard deviation?+
Square the standard deviation. Since standard deviation is defined as the square root of variance, reversing that operation just means multiplying the value by itself.
Why would I need variance if I already have standard deviation?+
Some statistical formulas, like combining variances of independent random variables or computing an F-statistic, require variance directly rather than standard deviation. You can't simply add standard deviations, but you can add variances.
Does squaring a negative standard deviation cause a problem?+
Standard deviation should never be negative in practice since it's a square root, so a negative input usually indicates an error. Squaring it will still produce a positive number, but the result won't be meaningful if the original figure was invalid.
What units will the variance be in?+
Variance is in squared units of your original measurement. If your data is in dollars, the standard deviation is in dollars but the variance is in dollars squared, which is why variance alone can be harder to interpret intuitively.
Is variance from sample data calculated differently than from a population?+
The squaring operation itself is the same, but the standard deviation you start with needs to already reflect whether it was computed with n or n-1 in the denominator. This calculator doesn't change that choice, it only reverses the square root.
