Note

This is a simplified model: it applies the counts, rates, prices and fees you enter to plain arithmetic. Every platform cut, payment fee, CPM, royalty per play and commission rate is a value you supply, because no platform's revenue share, advertising rate or payout rate is fixed: they change over time and differ by country, contract, category, audience and season. Engagement, open, click and unsubscribe rates are the standard definitions, but each platform and email tool counts interactions, reach, delivered mail and opens differently, so a rate is only comparable against numbers counted the same way; image-blocking and privacy features in particular make open rates unreliable. Revenue estimates ignore taxes, withholding, currency conversion, refunds, chargebacks, invalid traffic, minimum payout thresholds and payment delays. The churn projection assumes a constant monthly churn rate and a constant number of new subscribers, which real audiences never follow. Treat every figure as a rough planning estimate, not a forecast of what you will be paid, and check your own platform statements and any contract before relying on it. This is not financial, tax or legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my actual payout after a platform's cut?+

Multiply gross revenue by (1 minus the platform's percentage cut, expressed as a decimal). If a platform takes 45% and gross revenue is $1,000, your payout is $1,000 x 0.55 = $550.

Why do different platforms take such different percentage cuts?+

The cut reflects the platform's business model and the value of distribution and infrastructure it provides — a 30-55% range is common, with some platforms taking more from advertising revenue and less from direct fan payments, or vice versa, depending on how they want to incentivize creators.

Does the platform's cut apply before or after payment processing fees?+

This varies by platform and needs checking individually — some quote the percentage as the true final cut, while others deduct payment processor fees (like credit card fees) separately on top, meaning your real take-home is slightly less than a simple percentage calculation suggests.

If a platform's cut is 30%, does that mean I keep 30%?+

No — a common point of confusion. A 30% cut means the platform keeps 30% and you keep the remaining 70%. Always double check which number is being described: the platform's share or your share.

Can the platform's cut change based on my revenue tier or subscriber milestones?+

Yes, on some platforms — reaching certain thresholds can unlock a more favorable revenue split, so it's worth confirming your current tier's exact percentage before running this calculation, since it may differ from published headline rates.
