Note
This is a simplified model: it applies the counts, rates, prices and fees you enter to plain arithmetic. Every platform cut, payment fee, CPM, royalty per play and commission rate is a value you supply, because no platform's revenue share, advertising rate or payout rate is fixed: they change over time and differ by country, contract, category, audience and season. Engagement, open, click and unsubscribe rates are the standard definitions, but each platform and email tool counts interactions, reach, delivered mail and opens differently, so a rate is only comparable against numbers counted the same way; image-blocking and privacy features in particular make open rates unreliable. Revenue estimates ignore taxes, withholding, currency conversion, refunds, chargebacks, invalid traffic, minimum payout thresholds and payment delays. The churn projection assumes a constant monthly churn rate and a constant number of new subscribers, which real audiences never follow. Treat every figure as a rough planning estimate, not a forecast of what you will be paid, and check your own platform statements and any contract before relying on it. This is not financial, tax or legal advice.

How is affiliate commission calculated?+
Multiply the sale amount by the commission percentage rate. A $200 sale at a 10% commission rate earns $20 for the affiliate, before any platform fees or return-period adjustments.
Why did my commission not match the sale price times my rate?+
Some programs calculate commission on the pre-tax, pre-shipping subtotal rather than the full order total, and some deduct payment processing fees before applying the rate. Check the program's specific terms for what base amount the percentage applies to.
Does commission get paid immediately after a sale?+
Usually not — most affiliate programs hold commissions during a 'return' or 'holding' period (often 30-60 days) to account for refunds and chargebacks, only finalizing and paying out the commission once that window closes.
Why do commission rates vary so much between different products or programs?+
Rates reflect the seller's margin and customer acquisition strategy — physical goods with thin margins often pay 1-10%, digital products and subscriptions with high margins can pay 30-50% or more, since there's more profit available to share.
If a customer returns the item after I've been paid, do I keep the commission?+
Typically no — most programs claw back the commission for returned or refunded items, either deducting it from a future payout or invoicing it separately, which is exactly why the holding period exists in the first place.
