This is a simplified model: it uses fixed conversions (60 minutes per hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year) and ignores leap years, daylight saving changes, public holidays and irregular month lengths. Check the result against a real calendar before relying on it.

How is time saved calculated?+
The calculator subtracts the new, faster duration from the original duration to get the raw time saved, and can also express this as a speedup factor (original time divided by new time).
What does a speedup factor of 2x actually mean?+
It means the new process takes half the time of the original — completing in the same time it would have taken to do the task twice under the old method.
Why does a bigger percentage improvement not always mean a bigger speedup factor?+
A 50% time reduction corresponds to a 2x speedup, but a 90% reduction corresponds to a 10x speedup; percentage reduction and speedup factor scale very differently as improvements get larger, especially as reduction approaches 100%.
Can time saved be calculated for a single task or should it be totaled across many runs?+
Both are useful: per-task savings show the individual impact of an improvement, while multiplying that saving by how often the task repeats reveals the true cumulative benefit over time.
Is a small per-task time saving ever significant?+
Yes, even a few seconds saved per task can add up to substantial total time saved if the task is repeated thousands of times, which is why automation of small, frequent tasks is often high-value.
