Time relationship
Formula
overtime = max(0, hours worked − threshold)= 6
Note
This is a simplified model: it uses fixed conversions (60 minutes per hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year) and ignores leap years, daylight saving changes, public holidays and irregular month lengths. Check the result against a real calendar before relying on it.

How are overtime hours calculated?+
The calculator subtracts the standard threshold (commonly 40 hours per week) from total hours worked; any hours above that threshold are counted as overtime.
Is the overtime threshold always 40 hours per week?+
No, it varies by country, state, and sometimes by industry or union agreement; some jurisdictions also apply daily overtime thresholds (for example, over 8 hours in a single day) in addition to or instead of a weekly one.
Does overtime pay always mean 1.5 times the regular rate?+
Time-and-a-half (1.5x) is the most common rate in many countries, but some jurisdictions or union contracts specify double-time for hours beyond a higher threshold, or for holiday and weekend work.
How is overtime pay calculated once overtime hours are known?+
Multiply the overtime hours by the regular hourly rate, then multiply that by the overtime premium (like 1.5), and add it to the pay for regular hours to get total pay for the period.
Do salaried employees also accrue overtime?+
It depends on their classification: many salaried employees are 'exempt' from overtime rules under labor law, while 'non-exempt' salaried and hourly employees are generally entitled to overtime pay for hours beyond the threshold.
