Time relationship
Formula
elapsed % = days elapsed ÷ (elapsed + remaining) × 100= 100
Note
This is a simplified model: it uses fixed conversions (60 minutes per hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year) and ignores leap years, daylight saving changes, public holidays and irregular month lengths. Check the result against a real calendar before relying on it.

How is the percentage of time remaining before a deadline calculated?+
The calculator finds the total number of days from the project's start to its deadline, then compares the days remaining from today to that same deadline, expressing the remaining time as a percentage of the total.
Why is percentage remaining more useful than just a day count?+
A percentage gives immediate context: '20% of time remaining' communicates urgency more clearly across projects of different lengths than a raw number like '6 days left,' which means something different for a 2-week project versus a 6-month one.
What happens if the deadline has already passed?+
The calculator should show a negative percentage or an overdue indicator, signaling the deadline has been missed rather than showing a small positive percentage that could be misread as still on track.
Does this account for weekends or only calendar days?+
A basic version uses calendar days for a straightforward time-based percentage; if you want to track working-day progress specifically, use a working-days calculation instead, since the two can diverge significantly.
How should this percentage be used in project tracking?+
Compare the percentage of time remaining to the percentage of work actually completed; if time remaining is dropping faster than task completion, it's an early signal the deadline is at risk.
