Note
This is NOT legal advice and NOT a statement of any law. It is generic arithmetic: it applies the displayed formula to the figures you entered, and every rate, fraction, factor, cap and threshold shown is a value YOU supply, not a statutory or court-approved figure. No jurisdiction's rule is built in. Real entitlements, fees, interest, support amounts and deadlines depend entirely on the jurisdiction, the wording of the contract, the day-count and rounding conventions the court applies, and the facts of the case. Use these figures only as a rough arithmetic check and consult a qualified lawyer in the relevant jurisdiction before relying on any number.

How is an individual claimant's share of a class action settlement calculated?+
After deducting attorney fees, administrative costs, and any court-approved deductions from the gross settlement fund, the remaining net fund is divided among claimants according to the plan of allocation — often pro-rata based on each claimant's documented loss or a simpler equal-share method.
Why do class action payouts sometimes end up much smaller than expected?+
The settlement fund is shared among all valid claimants (which can be thousands or millions of people) after fees and costs are deducted, so even a large headline settlement figure often produces a modest per-person payout. Compare the fund size to the total number of claimants for a realistic estimate.
What is a 'plan of allocation' and how does it affect individual shares?+
It's the court-approved formula determining how the net settlement fund is divided — some plans give equal shares to everyone, others weight shares by purchase amount, dates, or documented damages. The calculator needs you to know which method your settlement uses to estimate your share accurately.
Does filing a claim guarantee a share of the settlement?+
No — claimants generally must submit a valid claim form by the deadline with any required documentation; failing to file, filing late, or providing insufficient proof can result in receiving nothing even if you were part of the affected class.
What happens to a class action fund if not everyone eligible files a claim?+
Unclaimed amounts are typically redistributed among the claimants who did file (increasing everyone's share), returned to the defendant, or sometimes donated to a relevant charity (cy pres), depending on the settlement's specific terms.
